Bathroom Decor Ideas
There's nothing like a picture book when you're shopping for inspiration. In this light, we present the following gallery of bathroom designs.
These 18 studies present as broad a range of styles as possible. You'll find small baths, larger ones, and luxurious master suites. Some homeowners wrestled with an existing architectural footprint; others looked up and out; a few borrowed space from an unused adjacent room. All sought to make the space as pleasingly useful as possible. As one master-suite owner commented, "All we need now is a hot plate."
One of these solutions may seem just right for your situation. Or, you may simply wish to incorporate one or more of the design elements or fixtures you see here; in this case, check "A Shopper's Guide"
TRADING PLACES
The remodeling agenda for this space called for flip-flopping the existing bathroom and dressing room. Besides efficiency and convenience, the homeowners wanted elegance, a rich sense of color, and a touch of drama all without the room being too dark.
Custom tiles set the tone; forest green is accented by a band of car-nelian chevrons. Sand is embedded in the floor tiles for slip-proof footing. Walls are sponged and streaked with paint. A new ceiling soffit, lit by decorative strip lights, gives the room a lifted look. Custom wall sconces and low-voltage tub downlights round out the lighting scheme.
From the shower, its just a few steps to the oversize dressing room, abundantly fitted with cedar-lined racks, drawers, and cubbyholes.
STEPS & SQUARES
This second-story master bath continues step and square motifs found throughout a house that uses classic materials with contemporary sophistication. Blue granite squares cover floor and shower. Walls are sponged and ragged in white, gray, blue, and lavender paint, their texture and coloring a softer echo of the granite. Square windows with etched square insets allow owners to see out, but protect privacy. The built-in wall unit stepped, of course provides generous storage as well as display space.
Two dressing rooms open off the entrance passage. A separate toilet compartment has a sandblasted window of its own. Downlights and skylights yield balanced light throughout; custom wall sconces repeat the step-and-square pattern once more.
NIGHT & DAY
More and more homeowners are opting for multiroom bath layouts, incorporating such amenities as dressing areas, makeup centers, and separate "wet" areas. This bathroom, part of a complete basement-level suite, is really two distinct rooms: one a bright, light-catching vanity area, the other a quieter, more introverted bathing space.
The main vanity room includes double sinks, a lowered makeup counter, mirrors aplenty, and cozy white wool carpeting. The bath area has a whirlpool tub, walk-in shower, toilet, and pedestal sink in an arched recess. Sealed marble flooring is lifted to wainscot level; the upper walls and ceiling have faux marble painting. The rosy band of light is from neon concealed by a soffit.
